Week Three - October 2002
The link to this week's lesson: Vectors - Object Alignment, Distribution, and Grouping.

Assignment:
Using the frame from class or one of your own if you choose:
Show 2 examples of how you would use or decorate your image. Doro offered some great ideas at the end of her tutorial. Enjoy experimenting with aligning, distributing and grouping to come up with your own personal touches.

My Homework
For this design, I used the preset star shape and resized it several times. Following the tutorial, I aligned the stars and grouped them. I then duplicated the groupings so that I could have one set of vector stars that were just the outline and another that was flood filled with a red-white-blue gradient. After converting to raster, I used the gold sculpture preset and then merged. I set it up to frame a picture I took of the Capital Building when I visited Washington, DC.

I went completely experimental with this one. Instead of using vector-preset shapes, I used the vector lines. This one started out as a long dash / short dash combination. I made one straight line and then used the node edit to put a curve in it. Then it was duplicated and mirrored. I used the tutorial as a guide for aligning and grouping the vector lines.

Steps for making the beaded effect:
Make a vector selection of the lines and save to alpha channel. Change the properties of the lines from white to a colorful gradient. Convert to raster, duplicate the layer. Load the saved selection and inner bevel the lines. Blend the beveled layer with the one below it using multiply. Merge these two layers and add a very light drop shadow.
