Week One - October 2002
The link to this week's lesson: Vectors - Node Types.

Using what we've learned from this lesson; Create 2 or 3 new images and include them on your website along with the original created in class.

My Homework
This image combines the flower from the tutorial and a few other experiments following the tutorial as a guide. Sort of a collage of the shapes we were instructed to make.
The leaf started out as a triangle with the two bottom node types edited to smooth/tangent and symmetric. The nodes and handles were then dragged into the curve shape I wanted for the leaf. I rotated it a little to get it into position.

The stems both started out as rectangles. I used curve before and curve after on the bottom nodes and stretched the arrows to make the bends in the stem. The upper two nodes were brought closer together.
The appliqué effect was done by editing the properties of each elements stroke to a custom line with small dashes. The inner portions were filled with gradients that suited the shapes and colors I wanted. Before converting the vectors to raster, I duplicated each vector layer and then changed the stroke to null, and made selections from each element using the Selections from Vector Object option. The selections were saved individually to the alpha channel and these duplicated layers were then deleted. After converting the good vector layers to raster, I applied inner bevels to the different parts of each shape by reloading my alpha channel selections. A very slight drop shadow was added and then the entire image was treated with the Texturizer filter (a third party filter which I imported from one of my Adobe applications).

The bells started out as the ellipse preset shape. I edited the node type of the bottom node to symmetric and dragged one of the handles out to the side. To give it a better shape, I just dragged the top node upwards.
The bell shape was filled with the metallic linear gradient that comes with PSPv7, the stroke set to none and converted to a raster layer. To get the shiny effect, I used inner bevel, chrome and then manual color correction gold metallic. The holy is a JASC tube, the background is flood filled green treated to the blinds effect.
After merging, the whole image was then run through Dream Suite's Dreamy Photo with a preset that I made. I framed the image with an ornament cutout frame.
Thanks for viewing my homework!
