New Dawn Designs

Week One - January 2003

The Assignment:
Please post an example that shows the color replacement technique. It can be the one you used during class or a different one if you choose.
Please provide a short description of any neat effects you used with your image.

Following the tutorial, I enhanced the color in various portions of this image.

This image was provided with the tutorial.

The examples below are made using the tutorial as a guide, then adding my own variances. Once I made the colorized version, I again duplicated the layer and applied the following effects to the new layer:

Sharpen More - Edge Enhance More - Gaussian Blur (10.00)

Once that was done, I used various layer blends to achieve these effects. Please click on a thumbnail to see the full-sized image.

Hard Light

Multiply

Saturation

Difference & Levels

Hard Light and Saturation look very similar, but side-by-side the Hard Light has just a bit more softness around the edges of the flower. Multiply is too dark, but could be enhanced further. As is though, it would take other filters like Pencil and Charcoal really well. My favorite is the Difference Blend enhanced using the Levels adjustment layer. It looks like a drawing of some strange alien plant.

As always, thanks for stopping by!
